Definition : Synthetic dressings made of synthetic polymers (typically polyurethane). These dressings are usually transparent films coated with an adhesive that is permeable to water vapor and oxygen but impermeable to liquids and bacteria. Synthetic film dressings do not absorb usually wound exudates; they are used mainly in wound management.
