Definition : Reagents used in hematology for artificial coloration of thin blood films for microscopic study (blood smear), usually for the morphologic examination of blood using a microscope. Stains used in hematology are formulated from methylene blue and eosin, typically Romanovsky stains or its modifications, including Wright's and Giemsa stains.
