IVD Test Reagent/Kits, Molecular Assay, Nucleic Acid Processing, Replication, Thermal Cycle

Definition : Molecular assay reagents designed for nucleic acid (e.g., DNA, RNA) replication, usually from samples obtained from body fluid specimens, following a temperature controlled repetitive process (thermal cycle) that multiplies the number of samples in each cycle. The reagents are commonly used in a process known as polymerase chain reaction, which is performed in a vial containing template or target nucleic acid (i.e., the DNA or RNA to be copied), short (i.e., 15 to 50 nucleotide) nucleic acid primers that specify the boundaries of the amplified nucleic acid(s), a salt buffer, and a thermostable DNA polymerase. Reagents for thermal cycle nucleic acid replication are used in clinical laboratories to generate large amounts of nucleic acid from a previously purified nucleic acid sample, which is usually used for subsequent diagnostic or research analysis.
