Myographs

Definition : Recorders designed to measure and record data and graphics (i.e., a myogram) of the physical and/or functional characteristics of the neuromuscular system. Myographs are usually intended to record one or several of the following data and graphics: (1) Forces produced by muscular contraction (force myographs); (2) the electrical potential caused by the muscles during muscular activity (electromyographs); and (3) changes in the electrical impedance of muscles caused by modifications in the muscle composition (impedance myographs). Myographs are intended for the evaluation of recorded information on the status of muscles under several conditions, including muscular diseases and/or trauma. Equipment based on myography intended for other purposes, such as those based on acceleromyography (used for intraoperative monitoring) and wire and pressure in-vitro assessment of soft tissue (e.g., blood and lymphatic vessels) are also available.
