Needles, Local Block, Retrobulbar

Definition : Local block needles designed to inject anesthetics into the region posterior to the eyeball (i.e., retrobulbar) to block the nerves of the eyes during surgery (e.g., cataract surgery). These devices typically consist of 25-gauge, thin-wall, small-length needles (typically from 35 to 40 mm [1 1/4 to 1-5/8 inch]); the smaller needles avoid damage to the optical nerve.
