Orthoses, Lower Limb, Hip, Therapeutic, Abduction, Pediatric

Definition : Therapeutic hip orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics of the hip joint, keeping the joint in abducted position. These orthoses may consist of a variety of prefabricated or custom-made devices that keep the hip joint in abducted position with a degree of flexion and control of movement different for each type of orthoses. Pediatric hip abduction orthoses are used for static therapy intended to treat congenital malformations (e.g., Leg-Calv?-Pertes disease) in children. Dedicated orthoses intended for ambulatory use, usually after surgery, and orthoses intended for night use to treat hip subluxation in children are also available.
