Projectors, Cine, Digital

Definition : Projectors designed to project on a screen a series of digital images in quick succession at a frequency at which flicker becomes invisible (usually 24 or 48 frames per second), providing images that give the impression of movement (known as cine or movie images). Digital cine projectors usually consist of a power supply; lights; reflectors; lenses; electronic circuitry; controls (e.g., focus, brightness); and other attachments that permit the projection of images with optical characteristics necessary for multiple viewers. Some projectors may include a screen. The projectors obtain digital information from an optical disc (e.g., DVD, blue-ray), cable or satellite link usually connected to a dedicated computer or server. Digital cine projectors are used in healthcare facilities, at home, and in other non-clinical locations. The projectors are typically classified as 2K (2048 ? 1080 pixels) at 24 or 48 frames per second or 4K (4096 ? 2160 pixels) at 24 frames per second. Dedicated projectors intended for commercial use follow Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) standards that are different from video standards and include very strict regulations regarding piracy. Projectors with three-dimension imaging capabilities are also available.
