Protection Garments, Environmental, Contaminated Area Rescuer

Definition : Protection garment designed for personal protection of rescuers in contaminated areas. These garments typically include a body coverall made of a vapor permeable plastic laminate (e.g., polypropylene) that can repel drips, spills, and splashes; safety eyeglasses or a hood to cover the face and/or head; special gloves; and boots. Contamination emergency protection garments are used for temporary (typically some hours or a few days), limited protection in areas with low or medium contamination with chemical, biological, or radioactive particles; most of these garments are disposable. They do not offer protection from radiation.
