Pumps, Laboratory, Peristaltic

Definition : Laboratory pumps designed to transfer or deliver fluids (gas and/or liquid) by compression of flexible tubes (i.e., peristalsis). These devices usually consist of a single- or multichannel rotary pump, which uses rollers (also known as wipers) on its outermost diameter to compress a flexible tube inside the pump. Compression advances the tube contents toward external tubing, simultaneously drawing additional fluid into the pump. Peristaltic laboratory pumps are used to transfer or deliver fluids in laboratory procedures; dedicated peristaltic pumps intended for use in chromatographic tests are also available.
