Definition : Electrical conductors of different sizes and shapes (plates, needles, etc.) that are designed to be applied to a dedicated body target (either invasively or non-invasively) in order to capture and transmit an electrical signal to a type of receiver (e.g., monitor, analyzer, etc). Electrodes can be reusable or disposable. Some electrodes are designed specifically for use in magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] environments, i.e., MRI-safe ECG electrodes, and are made from nonmagnetic materials so that they can be safely used in an MRI suite.
