Analyzers, Laboratory, Clinical Chemistry, Automated, Continuous-Flow

Definition : Automated clinical chemistry laboratory analyzers in which the chemical reactions take place in a continuously flowing stream of fluid in such a way that each specimen in the batch passes through the same continuous path once they leave the sample carousel. Each specimen is also subjected to the same analytical reactions at the same rate as every other specimen. These analyzers usually include peristaltic pumps to maintain the movement of fluid, and photometric or ion-selective electrode methods for measuring the concentration of analytes.

Raymond Pavitt established Astoria-Pacific, Inc. is the sole manufacturer of the Astoria and Astoria 2 continuous flow analyzers. The company later expanded into the automated chemistry and analyzer business–essentially, buying back the manufacturing rights of the RFATM 300, making substantial overhauls to the system, and re-branding it as the Astoria Analyzer. Today API has grown significantly to offer testing and analysis in a variety of markets; and Dip'N Grow has become a successful independent business on its own.
