Definition : Vascular catheters designed for umbilical vessel access in neonates during its first two weeks. These catheters are mostly used in arterial catheterization procedures, but venous catheterization is used sometimes as an alternative. Umbilical vascular catheters provide convenient and reliable access to newborn vasculature. They are mostly used in neonatal intensive care units for infusion, blood gas analysis, and pressure monitoring.
