Antimicrobial Reagent Disks

Definition : Small, round, thin patches impregnated with an antimicrobial substance (i.e., a substance known to kill or inhibit the growth of one or more microorganisms) that are intended to be used to measure (e.g., by a disk-agar diffusion technique or a disk-broth elution technique) the in vitro susceptibility of most clinically important bacterial pathogens to antimicrobial agents. These disks are typically used in the identification of bacteria.
