Monitors, Telemetric, Physical Activity/Physiologic

Definition : Telemetric monitors designed for continuous measurement and transmission of physical activity information (i.e., body movements) and also several physiologic parameters to a central station. These monitors are usually devices intended to be worn by the user that include sensors to measure physiologic parameters (e.g., skin temperature, pulse rate, respiration. electrocardiographic) as well as external acceleration sensors that are typically attached to a patient's wrist or to the ankle to measure user's movement (i.e., activity). The monitors also include a small battery-powered wireless transmitter that is connected to the sensors and send the information in real time to the central station. Physical activity/physiologic monitors also include electronic circuits that can process the data using dedicated software, and an electronic memory to store the information for later computerized analysis. These devices are typically used to assess the physical status of users in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.
