Photographic Stations, Gel Documentation

Definition : Photographic stations designed to obtain, print, and store color digital photographs of gel documentation. These stations typically consist of a high-definition color digital photographic camera; a portable hood that provides dark-room conditions and a viewer window; an ultraviolet transilluminator; light sources; light filters; a color printer; and a memory card. The station may also include a display and appropriate software for image processing on a separate computer. Gel documentation photographic stations are used for photographic documentation of fluorescent gel documents widely used in molecular biology laboratories especially for documentation of nucleic acid and protein suspensions on gel (e.g., agarose), frequently after being stained with substances (i.e., fluorochromes) that provide a secondary emission of UV ultraviolet light after excitation with light.
