Darkfield Illuminators, Photographic Station

Definition : Illuminators designed to provide darkfield illumination (i.e., illumination from oblique angles) for specimens located in the working board of a photographic station. These illuminators consist of an attachment to the station usually including high-frequency fluorescent light fixtures that can be moved up or down to obtain the optimum height for the exposition of the specimen, providing automated capabilities to obtain darkfield images. Darkfield images allow the observation of otherwise difficult to obtain images, including footprints on transparent adhesive sheet films and/or plaster during forensic investigations.
