Dental Materials, Restorative, Endodontic Gutta Percha Point

Definition : Restorative dental materials consisting of sterile pieces made of gutta percha designed for use as a restorative material during endodontic treatments. These devices typically consist of small pieces of refined and coagulated exudates from certain trees (i.e., gutta percha) that soften when heated and are easily molded. Gutta percha has properties that make the material appropriate for root canal restorations, including high thermal expansion, not shrinking when cold, radiopaque, and resistant to moisture. Gutta percha points are used during root canal therapy as a temporary or permanent filling material.
