Tents, Patient Isolation

Definition : Tents designed keep one or more patients isolated, protecting healthcare staff and other people from highly contagious microorganisms that cause serious illness. These tents usually consist of an impermeable, frequently inflatable cover. Some tents include appropriate beds and/or cots for patients. The tents are usually operated under negative pressure and use a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtering system, preventing leakages to the exterior. Patient isolation tents are used for patients with a variety of life-threatening infections such as those caused by hemorrhagic fever viruses (e.g., Ebola fever) and/or suffering from airborne transmitted diseases.
