Monitors, Physiologic, Neonatal/Infant

Definition : Monitors designed primarily for continuous real-time measuring and display of numerical data and/or waveforms of the electrocardiography parameters, the respiratory rate and apnea, and usually two or more of the vital signs (e.g., noninvasive blood pressure, temperature) of newborns and/or infants. These monitors can usually measure oxygen saturation in the blood (SpO2) of neonates through transcutaneous sensors that measure both transcutaneous oxygen (tcPO2) and transcutaneous carbon dioxide (tcPCO2) saturation. Some of these monitors may also perform continuous monitoring during transportation. Bedside neonatal/infant monitors are used for critically ill newborns and premature infants, especially those that are under critical care in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Bedside and telemetric neonatal monitors are available.
