Definition : Instruments designed to shape and enlarge holes in hard materials and/or tissues (e.g., bone, tooth) and/or to remove material from them during surgical or dental procedures. They are typically manual, handheld instruments with an elongated, tapered, and serrated working end and a handle. Dedicated broaches are used in bone cavity preparation and endodontic procedures.
