Definition : Information systems designed to record, process, and display information related to risk management tasks of a hospital. These systems consist of hardware, including computerized workstations and peripheral devices (e.g., high-capacity storage devices) that are usually connected in a local area network (LAN), and software appropriate for automation of risk management procedures, such as incident reports, long-range problem detection, trending, and resolution databases. Risk management information systems can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of risk and quality management follow-up and corrective actions.
