Adenotomes

Definition : Surgical instruments designed for excision of hypertrophic lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx (i.e., pharyngeal tonsils, adenoids). These manual, handheld devices typically consist of a long slender instrument with cutting blades at its working end and a handle with a mechanism to operate the cutting blades. Other surgical instruments, especially dedicated curettes, are also used for the excision of the adenoids (adenoidectomy).
