Definition : Pacemakers designed to apply a repetitive stimulus to regulate the rhythm of the breath. Respiratory pacemakers are used in patients in which an abnormally low amount of air enters the lungs (hypoventilation), usually caused by brain, spinal, or pulmonary injuries or diseases.
