Definition : Septostomy cardiac catheters that perform the opening by the repeated jerking of a controlled inflated distensible balloon through the interatrial septum. These catheters usually consist of a single- or double-lumen (for blood samples or injection of contrast medium) tube with a tough balloon affixed in their distal tip.
