Catheters, Peritoneal, Percutaneous Drainage, Single Lumen
Definition : Percutaneous drainage peritoneal catheters with a relatively small internal lumen (e.g., 10 Fr) and side-hole caliber. These catheters are very flexible and easy to insert; they are used to drain nonviscous fluids, such as loculated serous fluid (ascites) and encapsulated bile (bilomas), from the abdominal cavity. Some even smaller caliber (e.g., 9 Fr and less), short-length catheters may be useful for limited drainage using a trocar-puncture technique when collections are likely to contain less than 100 ml, or as secondary catheters placed with a multiple-lumen sump catheter.
