IVD Test Reagent/Kits, Immunoassay, Drug-of-Abuse
Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically urine, but also serum, and plasma) to determine one or more of a group of drugs that either are illegal or are frequently taken in excess for nonmedical purposes (i.e., drugs with a high potential of abuse); they include amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, and morphine. Immunoassays for drugs of abuse are mainly used for initial screening; they may not be specific for the tested drug (pseudoephedrine may result in a positive test for amphetamine and methamphetamine). Forensic tests to confirm the results are usually performed using selective ion monitoring with gas chromatography/mass spectography (GC/MS) techniques.
