IVD Test Reagent/Kits, Immunoassay, Autoimmune, Celiac Disease
Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine circulating immunoglobulin antibodies (e.g., antitissue transgluminase, antiendomysial, antigliadin) associated to an autoimmune disease characterized by a malabsorption syndrome (i.e., celiac disease) affecting both children and adults; this disease is promoted by ingestion of foods containing gluten, such as cereals. The antibodies detected are typically immunoglobulin A and G (IgA and IgG, respectively), indicating a nonallergic immune response to gluten proteins. Some of the antibodies present in celiac autoimmune diseases are also found in patients with other autoimmune diseases and/or certain malignancies.
