Staplers, Surgical, Linear
Definition : Surgical staplers designed to deliver staples in one or two double staggered rows following a linear pattern. These staplers may include parallel closing jaws, either U- or V-shaped (placing a double staggered row of staples), or a forked structure (placing two double staggered rows of staples). Some linear staplers include articulating and/or flexible components between the body and jaws to facilitate positioning in difficult operative places. Processed biological tissue (e.g. , bovine pericardium) may be used as a buttressing material for reinforcement of the stapled tissues to prevent leakage and/or staple-hole enlargement. Linear staplers are available for use in gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery, as well as for vascular procedures. Most staplers are reloadable, single-use devices.
