Definition : Surgical clamps designed for the atraumatic grasping and/or compression of the kidney pedicle during open-surgery procedures. These clamps are typically handheld, manual instruments including two parts pivoted at the center with curved or right-angled distal blades and appropriate ratchet handles; some clamps include interlocking longitudinal ridges to prevent slipping. Kidney pedicle clamps are used mainly to control the blood supply to the kidney during surgical procedures.
