Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended to identify Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2), a DNA virus of the family Herpesviridae, by detecting the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of the target virus. HSV2 acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is sexually transmitted; it is an etiologic agent of a variety of diseases including genital infections. Activation of latent herpesvirus is associated with some malignancies. Persistence of the virus for the lifetime of the host is common.
