Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to Hantavirus, the only member of the Bunyaviridae family that is not arthropod transmitted. Some particular strains of this virus (Hantaan, Dobrava, Puumala) may cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome; other strains (Sin Nombre, Bayou, Black Creek Canal, and New York) are the etiologic agents of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Rodents are the usual carriers of Hantavirus.
