Lensometers, Automated

Definition : Lensometers designed for the automated measurement of the optical characteristics of spectacle and/or contact lenses (e.g. spherical power, cylinder power, cylinder axis, prismatic power, lens diameter). The instruments consist mainly of light sources, a lens mount, microprocessor, camera imaging devices, and a display. They use an imaging camera to capture the patterns of light projected from the lens and analyze the result automatically. Automated lensometers are used mainly to determine whether the lens characteristics and the prescription match.
