Definition : Molecular assay reagents intended to identify mutations in the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene, located at chromosome 16p13.3, which encodes for the protein pyrin (also known as Marenostrin), produced in certain white blood cells involved inflammation. Mutations at this locus have been identified in patients with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF).
