Software, Physiologic Monitoring, Fetal

Definition : Physiologic monitoring software designed to operate fetal monitors, control/monitor a limited number of their functions, and/or process data obtained while monitoring. This software is intended to work only with one or a few models of fetal monitors, usually from the same manufacturer. The software may perform a variety of algorithms to facilitate the operation and analysis of the measurements performed while monitoring the fetus and/or while processing and/or transmitting/receiving patient information from workstations, and/or hospital information systems. Fetal monitoring software is not usually available separate from the monitor but may be updated (i.e., through the release of modified versions) during the life of the equipment; the software is mainly used by bedside and telemetric monitors. Dedicated software is available for antepartum and intrapartum fetal monitors.
