Definition : Funnels that are made of glass and used for liquid-liquid extraction. Separation funnels are fitted with a stopcock, which is closed when the mixture to be separated is added. The funnel is then closed and is shaken and inverted; then the stopcock is opened to release excess vapor pressure and the mixture is allowed to separate.
