Monitoring Systems, Physiologic, Acute Care

Definition : Physiologic monitoring systems designed for continuous checking of vital physiologic parameters in critical care conditions. These systems typically include a central station monitor configured to display and electrocardiogram (ECG) for each patient being monitored (other waveforms can be displayed instead of or in addition to ECG); modular bedside monitors capable to adapt to the changing conditions of patients (e.g. monitoring of cardiac output, arrhythmia, pulse oximetry, invasive and noninvasive blood pressure). Acute care monitoring systems are typically used in critical care areas (e.g., intensive care units, cardiac care units, emergency departments, post-anesthesia recovery units) and other areas where patients require continuous monitoring of vital signs and other physiologic parameters.
